  WHAT HAPPENED?

  The club decided against renewing his contract, so on Tuesday, De Bruyne played his last game for City at the Etihad in their 3-1 win over Bournemouth. During the 33-year-old's leaving presentation on the pitch, manager Guardiola was reduced to tears.

• THE BIGGER PICTURE

  De Bruyne will arguably go down as City's greatest ever player. And to mark his legendary status, the club have announced they will build a special statue of the attacking midfielder outside the Etihad after a decade of "incredible" service.

  On this honour, he said: “It means I will always be part of this club. Whenever I come back with family and friends, I will be able to see myself so I will always be here.”
