Newcastle appear to have pulled out of a deal to sign Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City in the January transfer window, a report suggests.

ToggleDespite extensive talks with City over a possible loan move until the end of the season, reports Newcastle are unlikely to sign the midfielder as things stand. Newcastle would have to pay a large fee to take him on loan and do not want to have an obligation to buy him outright. The Magpies believe the deal would not make financial sense and will not sign him unless City change their demands.

Newcastle have been linked with a move for Phillips for months as City want to offload the England international in January. Juventus are also interested in the 28-year-old but have not been able to come to an agreement with City over the terms of the transfer.
Phillips has made a total of 31 appearances for City since he joined the club from Leeds in the summer of 2022. He has only featured 10 times in all competitions this season, making just four appearances in the Premier League.
The midfielder will hope that City reach an agreement with Newcastle or Juventus so that he can get his career back on track following his struggles at the Etihad Stadium.
